Why Consider Mindfulness Courses?

The stresses and pressures of everyday life can sometimes get on top of us. In 21st century society, it is often rush, rush, rush with heavy demands on our time.

We live in a 24/7, ‘always-on’ culture and if we don’t take time out for ourselves, stress can take its toll on both our physical and mental health.

Since the Covid pandemic began in March 2020, some of these pressures are even worse. Many people are having to cope with working from home and juggling work with childcare, home-schooling or caring for elderly relatives.

Our lives have become remote, lived through a computer screen, and we feel disconnected from the things that usually help us unwind – friends, family, socialising.

Does this sound familiar to you? Are you struggling with stress or anxiety because of your day-to-day life or increasing reliance on remote working?

If so, learning mindfulness through an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course could help you to cope better.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is one of the many forms of meditation that are practised among different cultures worldwide. It is the practice of being present with your internal thoughts, physical sensations and emotions in a non-judgemental way.

“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn

Practising mindfulness regularly can help you to become less stressed, happier and more focussed. It can also help you to respond better to life’s challenges, without constantly worrying about the future or dragging up the past.

MBSR is one of the most widely used mindfulness training programmes and studies show that it can produce positive effects on your psychological well-being, as well as improve symptoms of some stress-related disorders.
